William G. Nolan is founder of NOLAN ELDER LAW, LLC. He is a 1981 graduate of Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham. He has worked in both the for-profit and the not-for-profit worlds and has experience in charitable planning, financial sales, insurance and annuities, IRA and 401(k)s, as well as the law with an emphasis on Elder law.

Alzheimer’s Planning

Alzheimer’s disease is a silent epidemic in Alabama. When a family learns that a loved one is stricken with this disease, what happens next? What is the family supposed to do? Many individuals don’t know what they need to do first or who to turn to for advice and solutions. Legal and financial decisions need to be made but are often consigned to the back-burner due to the medical issues facing the family. Unfortunately, timing is a critical part of the necessary planning process because if the legal and financial planning is not done quickly, the opportunity can be lost forever. And this can cost the family dearly.

My objective is to design a comprehensive strategy for the family to follow through the many phases and aspects of Alzheimer’s disease. I develop a comprehensive plan that deals with both the short-term challenges as well as the long-term problems. This may involve Medicaid planning, special needs trust, wills or powers of attorney, not to mention providing the organizational expertise that the family needs. Each client is different. But my main goal remains the same: To stay focused on each family and their unique circumstances, so that they can rest assured that they are prepared for whatever the future might bring.
