I have been helping seniors secure their finances, plan their estates, and prepare for incapacity or nursing home residence since 1990. In addition to my private practice advising seniors, I also served five years as a member of the Board of Directors of the local Council on Aging, including a year as Vice Chairman. I frequently advise social workers, nurses, and healthcare administrators on issues affecting seniors and I am often called upon to conduct in-service training, as well as continuing education classes. I am a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. I am Board Certified in Estate Planning and Administration by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. I am a member the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. The ultimate goal of proper estate planning is to provide options. So often, I see families suffer huge financial losses needlessly simply because an aging loved one became mentally incompetent because of Alzheimer's disease, stroke or other dementia. Since that person is no longer competent, he or she lacks the mental capacity to reallocate assets to qualify for Medicaid, or to execute trusts or contractual arrangements to protect assets or provide for the care of a spouse. Fortunately, most of these tragedies are completely avoidable with advance planning. My services to senior clients typically include advice and recommendations on incapacity issues, long term care insurance, Medicaid, asset protection, probate avoidance, and elimination of unnecessary income taxes, capital gains taxes, and estate taxes. I also design and implement various types of trusts and contractual agreements to assist seniors, as well as wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. I look forward to being of service.
