Wendy Miki Glaus is a partner in the law firm of Sterling & Tucker, LLP, where she serves as an elder law attorney and a Certified Public Accountant. She focuses her practice on Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans’ benefits, estate planning, estate, gift and income taxes, nursing home rights, and housing and care issues for the elderly. Her dedication and expertise provide families with assistance in qualification for Medicaid and other available government benefits such as Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) and Supplemental Social Income (SSI). In addition to her numerous certifications, she is also an Accredited Attorney with the Veterans Administration. Wendy has a special interest in VA benefits since her father retired from the Military after serving our country for twenty years and worked another twenty years for the civil service.

Ms. Glaus started her work in estate planning in 1994 at KPMG LLP as a CPA preparing estate, gift, and trust tax returns. She then went on to law school in Seattle, Washington finishing up her last semester at The William S. Richardson School of Law in Hawaii. She returned to KPMG LLP as a tax manager and started working for Sterling & Tucker in 2003 as a tax manager. With her financial background, she soon became the primary attorney helping elders deal with the monetary pressures of long-term care costs. She has over fifteen years of experience in taxes and over six years of experience in elder law and estate planning. She dedicates her career to assisting elders and their children deal with the multitude of legal and financial issues related to aging in our world today.

Ms. Glaus conducts Medicaid and Veterans’ benefits seminars for hospitals, nursing homes, care homes, assisted living facilities, retirement communities, and other private organizations. In addition, she has been an educational speaker at the Hawaii Bar Convention and for National Business Institute.

Education

Ms. Glaus completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, and her Master’s in Business Administration from Chaminade University of Honolulu. She became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in 1994. She received her Juris Doctor from Seattle University and was admitted in 2000 to practice law in Hawaii. Her most recent accomplishment in 2009 includes passing the Certified Elder Law Attorney exam to become a certified specialist in elder law.

Among her many affiliations, Ms. Glaus is a member of the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants (HSCPA), Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA), and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).

Personal

Ms. Glaus is an Ironman Triathlete, having completed thirteen Ironman triathlons in the U.S., Canada, and Western Australia. She also qualified and completed the World Championships held at Kona in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

In her leisure she enjoys swimming, biking and running with her husband, who is also an Ironman, while spending time with her two yellow Labrador Retrievers at home and at the beach.

Ms. Glaus’ many years of education and experience in both tax and law enable her to provide clients with unique protection planning in the areas of tax, estate planning, Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans’ benefits, business formation and real estate so their senior years do not have to be unduly consumed with financial worries.
