Heavenly Helpers is a non medical home care agency that provides exceptional Care Givers to come to the home (or facility) to assist with everyday tasks. Some examples? Bathing/dressing, keeping house tidy, running errands, taking the client places such as appointments, shopping, (or out to lunch!),etc. We can prepare nutritious home cooked meals, grocery shop, wash hair....you name it and we can help! However, we feel that one of the most fabulous things our Care Givers do is offer companionship and interaction. This is where we SHINE! We do NOT "baby sit" our clients. Our Care Givers do NOT plop down and watch TV or talk on the cell phone.

If you popped into one of our clients homes when our Care Giver was there what might you see? The Care Giver painting her client's nails or the Care Giver helping his client do his exercises. Maybe the two playing cards at the table. You might catch them coming out the door on the way to a Doctors appointment or to lunch. If the client is ill or on Hospice, you might find the Care Giver sitting quietly with his client, probably holding his hand or reading to him...

Did you know we have clients in Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes? Why? In many cases these places cannot totally focus on a client like we can! We have client's whose Care Giver comes out to read or walk with them or even help them eat their lunch. Many families need our Care Giver to be their loved one's "advocate" in the nursing home. For example, the Care Giver might send back a dinner if it is cold or insist someone come quickly if the client is in pain. It can be SUCH a peace of mind for the family to know when they can't be there, we will make SURE that good care is being provided.

I will close by giving one of the best tips I can give. Have a home care agency come and do the Initial Assessment BEFORE service is even needed! (We do not charge) Then, when the time does come or if an emergency happens, won't it feel great to make a call to people you ALREADY know and trust? I have clients who waited months after the assessment-we touched base every month or so, and when it was finally time, there was no stress. It was just this seamless process because we knew everyone and the situation at hand.

My name is Theanna Zika and I am the owner of Heavenly Helpers Senior Home Care. I started a home care agency because I felt like I knew what type of Care Givers people would want coming into their home. I thought about my own dad and the type of person he would enjoy. Whenever we are evaluating an applicant I use that as my barometer: Would my Dad react favorably to this person?

I have always enjoyed being around older adults. I just "click" with them. I think that is because I don't talk down to them or treat them like a child. One of my pet peeves is when a younger person, perhaps a nurse or doctor, encounters an elderly person and they immediately start talking in that high pitched "sing song" voice reserved only for older people. ("And how are WE today Mr. Black?") I just cringe. We need to talk to and treat our elders with respect-they've earned it!

I love owning my own business but sometimes find it hard to find that "balance" between work and leisure time. When you own your own business you live and breathe it. With all your heart you want it to be successful.

When I do make time for myself however, I love to work in my garden, practice yoga and pilate's, read and spend time with friends. I think being active and getting outdoors is the best recipe for a long healthy life! That and eating your vegetables.
