R. James Young is a member of Wells Marble & Hurst, PLLC where his main emphasis of practice is in the area of estate planning and probate as well as the related areas of elder law guardianships and conservatorships, corporations and real estate. A significant amount of Mr. Young's practice is devoted to estate and trust matters and elder law.
Mr. Young received his B.B.A. in Banking and Finance from The University of Mississippi and his J.D. degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was an Estate Tax Attorney with The Internal Revenue Service for six years, where he received the High Quality and Special Achievement Awards. Mr. Young has been included in Best Lawyers in America since 1997, and he was named a Super Lawyer in 2006.
He has instructed estate planning courses for life insurance agents, stock brokers, and other lawyers, and he is a frequent speaker before professional and civic groups on topics of estate planning. He has served as chairman of the Annual Estate Planning Seminar co-sponsored by the Mississippi College School of Law and the Estate Planning Council of Mississippi. He is a member of the American, Mississippi and Hinds County Bar Associations, the Jackson Tax Forum, the Jackson Estate Planning Forum and the Financial Planning Association where he has served on various boards and in various offices. Mr. Young is past president of the Estate Planning Council of Mississippi. he is also a member of the Taxation Section and the Estates and Trusts Section of The
Mississippi Bar, and he is past Chair of the Estates and Trusts section. He is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is past Chair for the State of Mississippi. He is an Accredited Estate Planner with the National Association of Estate Planning Councils. He is also a past Chairman of the Mississippi Asset Protection Committee.
